The Dr. Jose M. Lara Scholarship is a one-time award and is purposed to encourage
recipients begin their postsecondary endeavors. The La Feria High School Scholarship
Committee and the La Feria Academy Scholarship Committee will be responsible for
collecting applications and selecting the top five candidates at their respective campuses. Dr.
Lara will make the final selection. One (1) $500 scholarship will be available to La Feria High
School students, and one (1) $500 scholarship will be available to La Feria Academy students.
The scholarship criteria were established exclusively by the sponsor and subject to change.
Late applications will not be accepted or processed by the high school or academy staff, as
requested by the sponsor. All students are encouraged to apply.

The purpose of the PUENTE Scholarship Fund is to provide financial aid to persons of Hispanic origin so that they may continue their education after graduating from high school. A Hispanic student is any person who has at least one parent of full Hispanic origin. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of specific criteria including, the quality of one’s personal written statement, interview, financial need, grade point average, school/community involvement, and the strength of course load.
An interview with the Puente Scholarship Selection Committee may be required. The recipient(s) will be announced at Awards Day at the La Feria High School.
